The carrier is introducing complimentary high-speed onboard wifi through Starlink agreement

Passengers aboard the airline are set to enjoy high-speed wifi in the air at no cost after a new agreement from SpaceX's satellite company.

No-cost plus Quick Wifi Available to Everyone

The carrier announced that this free, “quick and reliable” wifi provision through SpaceX will be available for passengers flying economy, business, and first class starting soon.

Widespread Deployment Throughout Multiple Carriers

The umbrella company of BA, the airline group, confirmed it had finalized an deal with the satellite firm to provide internet access on more than 500 planes across its airlines, which also include the Irish airline, the Spanish carrier, plus Vueling.

Smooth Connectivity from Boarding to Landing

The airline stated that this introduction of this system formed part of a £7bn “upgrade” program that will provide lag-free connectivity service to passengers from the gate through landing, also when traveling over oceans and far-off locations.

Travelers will be able to link multiple electronics while they will not require a special login.

“Gamechanging for the airline and passengers, elevating the journey onboard our flights by offering them continuous wifi from start to finish.”

Existing Wifi Options

Limited connectivity access remains provided to BA flyers through the majority of the airline's jets using the .air system.

Members of BA’s frequent flyer program can transmit messages plus plain-text messages onboard at no cost, whereas travelers who want to access music, video, and content on their flight if not travelling in first class can expect to pay from £4.99 to £21.99 for one internet package.

Starlink operates a network of thousands with satellites which is run under Elon Musk’s aerospace firm.

Latest Improvements for BA

Their executive team has been focusing to improve British Airways again after years with cost cutting, technology issues, industrial action, and mass redundancies.

BA noted that use of smart technology had helped them to bring its on-time performance at peak performance from over a decade ago.

Earnings Performance

In August, BA announced a jump in earnings for the first six months of the year, contributing to IAG’s results to grow.

The group is set to report their financial performance for the quarter recently shortly.

Other Satellite Deals

The airline's news arrives shortly following wireless operator Virgin Media O2 said it was teaming up with the satellite provider to boost wireless coverage across remote areas across the United Kingdom, enabling users to automatically hook up mobile devices using orbiting devices in the absence of traditional network coverage is available.
