A helicopter hovering near a well-attended southern California shoreline unexpectedly started spinning uncontrollably, ultimately dropping height and plunging into a cluster of palm groves as spectators observed.
Recordings uploaded online capture the aircraft beginning to twirl near Huntington Beach then falling in the direction of the border of the coast, where it ends up lodged amidst palm trees and a set of stairs close to the coastal road.
The Huntington Beach fire department stated five people were taken to hospital comprising a pair who were in the aircraft and were “rescued from the debris” after the crash on Saturday.
Three people on the road were hurt. Specifics on their condition were not immediately available.
What led to the incident was still under investigation.
Authorities said the chopper was connected to an yearly “Cars and Copters” fundraising event planned for the following day.
