Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and enthusiasts have found plenty of engaging independent titles. However, one catches the eye for its unconventional concept. Named Unko Technica, this classic-feel side-scrolling game lets you play a hero that is truly a piece of poop trying to travel to a commode. For those curious, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."
The gameplay is easy to grasp: press a single jump button. In 150 levels, you'll face mini-bosses and visit a market to purchase outfits for your dung hero.
Time your movements precisely, as a error requires beginning again. Leap off bubbles to launch the poop upward, traverse fragile surfaces, and interact with triggers to unlock hidden paths. Gather currency to purchase tougher levels where things gets crazy.
In terms of design, the experience features eye-catching level designs and catchy music score. The simple graphics with moving basic polygons may remind gamers of old favorites like Earthbound.
Although difficult to name similar titles where you are a dung character, video games frequently incorporated fecal matter. For instance, in Death Stranding, players make throwables from character droppings. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use manure as fertilizer. Unsurprisingly, fecal references appears extensively in the role-playing game The Stick of Truth.
Despite its humorous premise, Unko Technica has already earned notable accolades, like taking top honors at Bandai Namco's GYAAR Studio in 2023. This trial version is accessible currently on Steam, with the complete version planned to arrive on PC on November 19.
